Joe, (Ellen's son) came up with idea to be business partners in a resort in the north-woods. A Minnesota native (growing up on Main St, Rogers, MN. attending Elk River school dist.) Joe has been employed in various fields such as dishwashing, gas station clerk, to burying telephone cable for Qwest. After moving to the cities to become a drywall finisher, restaurant management and cubical duties at a Minneapolis Financial industry,working as a volunteer within the community doing everything from youth groups, delivering meals to elderly and community fund raisers, Joe felt that running a family resort would be a great opportunity to use these skills. Having not been to Park Rapids before, Joe and Ellen took a road trip to check out this resort and see what the community had to offer.After searching the Resort market throughout MN and WI Sleeping Fawn was the first resort they looked at and fell in love with it from day one, they feel you will fall in love with the Sleeping Fawn Resort as they did. |
Ellen is also a Minnesota native growing up on the east side of Duluth. After leaving home, she moved to the Twin Cities and worked for Honeywell for 4 years and continues drives school bus (over 30yrs). One of her passions was coaching girls softball which she did for 10 years and tending bar at the local tavern formaly known as Rogers Pub. After retiring from the Power Plant in Elk River, Ellen wanted to move to the north woods where she can enjoy wildlife and birding, the lake and reading books with a peaceful setting. |
Joe is an active member and secretary of the Mantrap Valley Conservation Club and a current member of the Mantrap Chain Owners Association, and a recent board member (representing lodging) of the Park Rapids Chamber of Commerce.
Joe and Ellen are current ESB (Emma, Stocking, Bottles) Lake members, and members of the Park Rapids Chamber of Commerce.
